Safe and Content: Life In New City

JCDP

The Joint Commission for Displaced Persons (JCDP) would like take a few minutes of your time to welcome you to New City!

You did it! You survived! After days of dangerous and difficult travel in the Outlands, you arrived in New City, one of the few remaining strongholds of humanity on Earth. You felt tired and hungry, but you were relieved to be there. Now you were safe.

The people in town recognized you as an outsider immediately. They answered your questions politely, but were not exactly friendly. Frankly, you didn’t care, you were just stoked to be alive and in a place where you didn’t have to check over your shoulder every few seconds.

Everyone you talked to told you the same thing, “Newcomers should always go to the Welcome Fountain to receive their welcome.” Maybe it was the rumbling in your stomach distracting you, but at the moment you didn’t think about how weird it was that everyone said the phrase exactly word-for-word like it had been memorized.

Following their instructions, you made your way to the city center where a large fountain was gushing with crystal-clear water. People were climbing up the steps up the tall fountain, so you decided to do the same and take a look around.
